Speedtwinn is the song writing duo of Derwood Andrews and Gary Twinn, two Londoners now residing in California.
Derwood, lead guitarist of the legendary British punk band Generation X, was also founder of the 80’s pop group Westworld. His next venture, Moondogg, received critical acclaim by the UK press who named the album Fat Lot Of Good as a drum and bass masterpiece and album of the year.
Derwood’s continuing releases, under the moniker Tone Poet, are extremely popular with underground desert-blues aficionados and he was invited to tour the UK and perform at the Norfolk Red Rooster festival.
Gary Twinn was front man for British press darlings Twenty Flight Rockers, whom Melody Maker’s Carol Clarke hailed as the best live band in the UK. TFR was also the first rock group to be broadcast live to air on BBC Radio One’s Janice Long show. Before all this however Gary was singer with Australia’s Supernaut, who’s first single, I like it Both Ways, caused such controversy that it was banned by radio stations nationwide and subsequently rocketed to the top of the Aussie charts through live TV performances.
Supernaut were named best new band with best video in Australia’s rock awards. Andrews and Twinn have performed together on a number of occasions, notably as Dead Horse with Rat Scabies and Glen Matlock, but Speedtwinn is a departure from the rock band format and is essentially an alternative country outfit with a heavy nod to American rockabilly/blues and British punk.
The album California Reboot, a project that was originally conceived some years ago, has been remastered, repackaged and rebooted, and is about to be released by Australian label MR Records. Featuring a brand new recording of the Aussie classic
'I Like It Both Ways'.
Live performances throughout Australia are planned for early 2025.
